Here's the Xynergi in all its glory. A compact, extraordinarily powerful tactile control surface for audio-for-video.

This guy looks really serious about media production. Hey man, relax; it's just a movie. You're not brokering world peace or doing open heart surgery or anything like that, you know.

 |
The Xynergi puts everything you need at your fingertips. In fact, since it can change the functionality of each control depending on which mode you're in, it has many more functions than you have fingertips. If you were born with like 30 fingers, please forgive us in advance for the generalization.

What do you think of when you hear the word "Fairlight"? I guess the answer depends on how experienced you are (or, as some people would say, how old you are). Back in the late '70s, Fairlight's name was synonymous with the famous Fairlight CMI, one of the earliest digital sampling synthesizers. By the early 1980s, innovative artists like Peter Gabriel, Jean Michel Jarre, Duran Duran, Todd Rundgren, Alan Parsons, and Stevie Wonder were all putting the Fairlight CMI into the spotlight. In fact, along with the Synclavier, it could be said that the Fairlight CMI ushered in a whole new genre of music. If you loved or hated synth pop, credit (or blame) Fairlight.
The Core of Crystal
So, what happened after that? Throughout the '80s and '90s, Fairlight retained the respect and admiration of the high-tech world, mostly focusing their efforts on the fast-paced world of sound-for-picture and post-production. But last year, Fairlight dropped a bomb on the world of professional audio: the CC-1 (Crystal Core) media engine. According to Fairlight, the CC-1 engine so incredibly powerful that... well, we'll just let them say it:
"The technology is so powerful that 230 Hi Resolution audio channels can be processed concurrently, each with eight bands of EQ and three stages of dynamics by a single CC-1 card hosted in a Windows PC. In addition, the engine provides enough processing power to support a large format mixing system with access to 72 mix busses, 220 physical I/Os, a comprehensive monitoring system, a fully integrated 192 track DAW, on board HD/SD video and access to most popular 3rd party PlugIns."
As if that weren't enough, apparently the CC-1 can record at up to 384khz rates. I mean, whoa. Just... whoa.
Enter the Xynergi
First, it's pronounced like "synergy". And don't blame us; we didn't name the thing. But we like it nonetheless. The Xynergi Media Production Centre is designed to organize and deliver all the media processing tools needed for high-end audio for video production in all widely used surround formats. It's is based around a tactile control surface that harnesses the processing power of Fairlights CC-1 digital media engine and Fairlights integrated PyxisTrack video.
The Xynergi controller is a compact desktop user interface used to access all features and functions of the Fairlight CC-1. Conveniently, you can also use it along with your standard Windows applications such as Email, Word and Excel.
One particularly cool feature of the Xynergi controller are its self-labelling key switches, which are able to display full color images, animated icons or text to provide intelligent control over the entire recording, editing and mixing process. In addition, the controller can support any type of language or icon driven menu structure with a QWERTY keyboard for routine naming tasks and immediate access to Windows applications.
The controller also features eight touch-sensitive rotary controllers and multiple soft keys to support Xynergi's sophisticated mix automation system, as well as precise control over extensive signal processing facilities which include multi-band EQs, three stage dynamics, multi-dimensional panning and auxiliary sends.
Application Awareness
Unlike most work surfaces, the Xynergi actually knows what you're doing. When you're in a particular mode (recording, editing, mixing, set-up, etc.), it instantly presents the function choices relevant to that mode while hiding the functions you don't need.
By integrating all elements of the media creation process within one operating environment, Xynergi fuels user creativity and delivers unparalleled productivity. Xynergi manages digital audio recording and video capture direct to disk, and includes a vast array of integrated editing and processing tools. It also builds an audio bridge to the vast community of third party plug-ins by connecting to sound design applications through the VST and ReWire protocols. Xynergi is able to deliver sophisticated automated mixing and mastering in all widely used surround formats. When a project is complete, Xynergi manages its delivery to a wide variety of digital formats and electronic destinations.
